Berlin-based Robin Ordell’s musical influences come mostly from Jazz, bringing in deep soulful grooves, characterized by improvisation, syncopation and usually a forceful rhythm. Deep, bassy breaks and warm loops flow through his sets and productions, while touches of minimal experimentation and a strong house message make up his signature sound.
Growing up around funk music during a childhood in Nice, France, Robin found himself in 2007 in East London, drawn deeply towards the underground club scene. It was here he began exercising his love for solid House, influenced by the French style of the 90’s, while also drawing on inspiration from deeper German minimal sounds.
2009 was a notable year in Ordell’s affirmation as a DJ, gaining gigs at infamous clubs such as Fabric & TBar London. At the same time Half Baked was formed, an East London soon-to-be legendary underground Sunday party where Robin Ordell become a solid resident. Half Baked has since reached phenomenal success in the UK and abroad, with Robin playing alongside the likes of Raresh, Cassy, Craig Richards, Fumiya Tanaka, Thomas Melchior and Apollonia.
Robin also regularly plays throughout Europe, recently showcasing his style at Concrete (Paris), Techno Gipsy (Moscow), ADE (Amsterdam), Off Sonar (Barcelona) to name a few.
Signed on Seuil’s Eklo and Half Baked Records, Robin releases solo EPs through both imprints. He has also joined forces with Seuil and Le Loup on several projects, such as ‘Pap Inc’ featured on Eklo 028. In addition to future EPs on Half Baked Records, a number of remixes are coming soon on Heko Records and Bloop.
